Lets take a moment for some important news.

First of all, I was able to have an unexpected weekend with Mr. O and it was fantastic. The weather was beautiful and we were able to spend a lot of time outside and enjoying it all. A truly wonderful weekend.

The really important news that inspired the name of this post is that... wait for it...

MY BIRTHDAY IS IN 12 DAYS!

Get excited people.Get.Excited! I'll be spending some time in Texas for Mr. O's brother's winging, which is super exciting. I've never been to Texas. Unfortunately, we'll be traveling through a few airports on my actual birthday making it too hard to actually do anything (lame).

I'll be coming home the next day because I'm going to start coaching AAU basketball (awesomeness) and tryouts are the 13th (another lame). I'm sure my birthday will be great no matter what I'm doing. I just wish I had more time in a day, but doesn't everyone?

But if you want to know what I want... it's this. Don't worry, it's only around $800. bahahaha.. A girl's gotta dream, right?!

Why I love Regretsy.

Okay. If anyone knows what Etsy is you probably know what Regretsy is. If not, here's the breakdown:

Etsy is a website of homemade goodness. You can find a lot of amazing things there. In fact, I'm doing a lot of searching for wedding stuff and just stuff that I like.

seller: myksj

Regretsy is a little gem that Amy Winchell created to show where "DIY" meets "WTF" on Etsy. Seriously, some people sell the saddest - oddest - nastiest items that I have ever seen. haha

Then, because Amy is amazing, she started a bridal issue. Everyone, I'd like you to meet, "Here Comes the Snide."

Food Frenzy

Okay, so not everything is in the category of "wedding" these days. I got some great cookbooks for Christmas (Thanks Auntie!) and have been trying really hard to make use of them.

The most recent experiment was Apple Dumplings. I'm sure if you follow me on Twitter and/or Facebook you'll be sick of hearing about this stuff, but seriously I was pretty proud of them. I promise they won't be posted anywhere else after this. (because I have no more social networks that I can use to talk about them. ha!)

They have definitely inspired me to start a "Food Frenzy" entry. Consider this Food Frenzy: 1st Edition

Here's the recipe for the delish Apple Dumplings:

2 cups water
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 teaspoon grown cinnamon
1/4 cup butter/margarine
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup shortening
1/3-1/2 cup half-and-half
2 tablespoons sugar
6 small cooking apples (make sure they're super small! I had to cut my apples in half)
Granny Smith or Rome Beauty
1 tablespoon butter/margarine
It calls for 1 tablespoon of Honey, 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts, and 2 tablespoons of rainsin... but I changed this up (instruction #4)

1. For sauce, in a med. saucepan combine the water, 1 1/4 cups sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon. Bring to boil; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes. Add the 1/4 cup butter or margarine. Set aside.
2. Meanwhile, for pastry, in a med. bowl combine the flour and salt (I also added cinnamon to this step to give dough a little more flavor). Cut in shortening until pieces are pea-size. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of the half-and-half over part of the mixture; gently toss with a fork. Push moistened dough to the side of the bowl. Repeat, using 1 tablespoon of the half-and-half at a time, until all of the dough is moistened. Form the dough into a ball. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough into an 18x12-in rectangle. Using a sharp knife, cut into 6-in squares.
3. In a small bowl (like tiny) stir together the remaining 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and the 2 tablespoons sugar. Set aside.
4. Peel and core the apples. Place an apple on each pastry square *put honey in center of cored apple - I put about a tablespoon in each dumpling... If you like nuts & raisins combine all three ingredients and add them to each dumpling* Sprinkle cinnamon/sugar mixture; dot with the 1 tablespoon of butter/margarine. Moisten edges of each pastry square with water; fold corners to center over apple. Pinch to seal seams. Place dumplings in a 13x9x2-in baking pan. Reheat sauce to boiling and pour over dumplings. Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree oven about 1 hour or until apples are tender and pastry is golden.

- To serve, spoon sauce over dumplings.

Cheers!

Exhibition: a collection of things (goods or works of art etc.) for public display

I ventured into the "expo" forest today to see what all of these bridal people had to offer. I realize that going to an expo this early that I will not find a dress or something - totes out of season! lol I mostly wanted to explore for some goods like catering, cake, florist, etc....

The best thing about this? Mr. O and I are going to South Carolina to look at reception venues the first weekend in February annnndddd there is an expo that weekend! What are the chances? When something like this just falls into your lap, it's a must. I think it'll be nice to just go and see everything in one place. I was kind of dreading going from place to place... to place... to place. This way, we can just venture through the booths. It's on Sunday, but the mister has said that he will suck it up even though he has to work on Monday and we'll have a drive ahead of us. Nice!

It doesn't appear to be crazy big so maybe we can kind of speed through it. I've also proposed for the seester and madre to have a "girl's weekend" with me so that we can go to one in Chicago. *hint*hint*

Finding Treaure

Mr. O and I were able to spend this past weekend lounging and having a nice time together. Ahhh, just what the doctor ordered. As I was getting ready to leave I noticed an unopened box. What was this little treaure? Well, it was a photo printer/scanner that was purchased in '09 that he has never used before! It was fantastic.

Was I excited because I confiscated it and could now print/scan anything that I wanted straight from my computer at any time? No! I was excited because I can now print the Save the Dates, Invitations, Programs, and whatever other wedding-ness that I decide to dive into... AND I CAN USE GLOSSY PAPER! haha

Anyways, I hooked it all up last night and it works perfectly. Mr. printer is now patiently waiting for me to start using it until the cartridges start smoking. haha :)

He liked it so much he put a ring on it

Today was a very exciting day! Mr. O and I were able to make it to Reeds to get a new band for my ring. I loved it before, but it was really exciting to be able to go and pick out something new! They were really awesome and got it done in just 2 hours! I was really nervous that I was going to have to go a while without it. It didn't take me long to pick out the one that I wanted. I looked at a lot, but kept coming  back to this one. After I said I liked it, the jewelry went to see if my diamond would fit... Perfect match! It was meant to be.

How awesome is that?!

I mentioned on Twitter (@kassie_layne) that I had hit the DIY jackpot the other night and promised to drop some of the website names. Other than WeddingBee (the best DIY site I've found because it's real brides just posting about what they are doing over and over again) here are the blogs that I've grown to love:

Offbeat Bride has a lot of really cool DIY projects & they have other "alternative bride" options for you to look at. Their feedback on the projects is pretty good, too.

iDiY is amazing! It was probably my favorite find of the evening. It has tons of different stuff on the site, but the best part is the Freebies & Downloads section. They have posts after posts of things online that you can download for invitations, stickers, and other types of stationary. It's like she does all the work for you and then you can just reference her site. Ah-maze-ing.

Design*Sponge has a DIY section and they can just give you a few cool ideas otherwise, too.

The Inspired Bride is the last blog that I found. I didn't get a chance to really look at her stuff, but from what I saw.. It's awesome. Lots of pictures to look at and input to read, which is exactly what I need (or already have too much of already haha).

On Offbeat Bride they have a section called "Wedding Porn" and it's literally just picture after picture of all the things that future brides love, but probably don't need to see. Other people's weddings, different floral arrangements, dresses, etc... everything I can't stop looking at. I swear, I'm addicted. haha

It is looking like Mr. O and I will be able to go look at venues together, which is GREAT! I initially thought I was going to have to go by myself, but I think he can make it!

Also, I talked to a photographer for about an hour yesterday and she was able to name a few more places that I hadn't come across. So, now the venue list is up to 5. I'm going to stop looking online now and just start scheduling times to see these places. Woohoo!

Wanted: The Perfect Location

The search for a reception venue continues. Thanks to Mr. O's family, I've had better luck in the past few days finding options. The one thing that I have seen across the table are comments like, "Venues book quickly.. the earlier, the better." So, I'd really like this to be taken care of ASAP. Unfortunately, the schedule doesn't have a trip to South Carolina penciled in. Uh oh....

There are 3 places that I really want to check out. I think that it's safe to say that I'll find the best place out of the three.  I wish I could magically transport the two of us so that we didn't have to make the drive, but that's not realistic. Hmmm... I suppose that if they aren't available, it wasn't meant to be!

Sneak peek of the different options:

Option 1

Option 2

Option 3

I can't give away all the deets!

*Note: Option 3 has been eliminated due to size & we have found 3 other options*

Organization Queen

First of all, I just downloaded the iPhone app for BlogSpot! How exciting! It's the little things, I suppose. Now, I can blog from anywhere... This could make things super fun.

I am trying REALLY hard to stay organized. Right now it's all thoughts and ideas, but it's definitely helping me figure out wants, don't wants, and maybes throughout the searching process. If I think of something, I write it down - good, bad, or ugly.

As long as I don't lose it (the book, not my mind... well, maybe both.) I'll be good!

I'm a total nerd, right??

Inspiration

I die for these amazing little creations.
I want my wedding to be as amazing as these shoes.

I find myself reaching out to Etsy to find some amazing things and this happens to be one of the gems that I've come across. If I was an 8 1/2 (and wasn't already 6'2'') I would have already bought them.

As I find amazing things, regardless of whether I use them or not, I'll make sure to post them! I love sharing my finds.

.... And the Fun Begins!

I have recently become engaged (a month ago tomorrow) and I have already been swimming in wedding planning magazines, websites, and checklists.

My fiance, who I will refer to as Mr. O, is in the USMC and will be deploying shortly. I have taken it upon myself to try to get all of the questions answered that I can while I still have him around! This has been a little confusing considering it's over a year away, but once we both agreed that it would be better that we do it together now instead of me doing it alone later we were good!

I look forward to the upcoming 16 months and have a lot of DIY projects (invitations, programs, and whatever else I decide to take on) ahead of me. YAY! I'm so excited. :)

What we know now: South Carolina wedding & reception, he's in charge of honeymoon & he's keeping it a surprise, 5 attendants for each of us, lots of family involved, SWORD ARCH!, and some other little stuff here and there.

Don't you worry, I will be keeping this updated frequently as the projects start coming along & the chaos unravels!
